By Horace Palacio: The Belize Met Service has issued a cautionary note for residents, especially those located inland, as a heat alert has been announced for today. The advisory calls for individuals to stay well-hydrated and minimize outdoor activities, especially during the peak afternoon hours.
Today’s weather forecast, released at 6:00 AM, indicates a mainly clear and sweltering day ahead, with no significant rainfall anticipated. There’s a minimal chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms over the Maya Mountains in the afternoon.
Coastal temperatures are predicted to reach a sizzling 94°F (34°C) during the day and dip to 84°F (29°C) at night. Those inland are set to experience even more intense heat with highs of 103°F (39°C) and lows of 75°F (24°C) at night. Hill regions are forecasted to have temperatures of 84°F (29°C) during the day and 70°F (21°C) at night.
Marine conditions indicate choppy to moderate seas with waves measuring 4-6 ft and winds coming from the S-SE at 10-15 kts.
While today’s alert focuses on the heat, the weather outlook for Friday suggests similar hot conditions. There’s also an expectation of isolated showers or thunderstorms over southern coastal areas by Friday night.
Residents are advised to pay heed to the heat alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
