By Horace Palacio: Tropical Storm Sean has officially formed in the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean, marking it as the 19th named storm of this year’s active hurricane season.

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) reported that Sean is currently positioned 1,170 kilometers west-south-west of the Cabo Verde Islands. The storm boasts maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is progressing in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 13 mph.

According to NHC predictions, “A west-northwestward to northwestward motion is anticipated over the next several days.” Over the coming 72 hours, little change in the storm’s strength is expected.

Fortunately, Sean is not projected to pose any significant threat to land areas.

In addition to monitoring Tropical Storm Sean, the NHC is also closely observing a tropical wave located just off the African coast. This wave is starting to show signs of organization. With current environmental conditions appearing favorable, the NHC anticipates potential development as the wave traverses westward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
