By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize have a great opportunity of taking over first place in Group C of the 2023 Concacaf Nations League B when they play Bermuda tonight at 8:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
That’s because French Guiana defeated Group C leaders St Vincent & the Grenadines 4-1 at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex in Kingstown on Friday afternoon.
Despite St Vincent and the Grenadines retaining the top spot with their six points, Belize, who presently have three points, would take over the lead on goal difference should they beat Bermuda. That’s because St Vincent have a -1 goal difference while Belize already have a +1; a win would put Belize at six points with a much better goal difference.
A draw would put Belize even on points with French Guiana who temporarily hold second place with four points. A 0-0 draw would keep French Guiana second but anything above that will favour Belize to regain the second position.
A loss keeps Belize in third place.
Tonight’s match is Belize’s third in their quest of finishing first in the Group C and moving up to League A. So far, Belize lost 2-1 St Vincent and the Grenadines 2-1 on September 8 and beat French Guiana 2-0 on September 12.
