By Aaron Humes, Belmopan: As suggested last week by Opposition Leader Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow, supporters of the United Democratic Party (UDP) have gathered outside the National Assembly in protest of a planned deal to loan money to a special purpose vehicle to build Government complex office buildings along the Lake Independence Boulevard.
The UDP argue that the deal gives too much to the SPV company where the Government is essentially paying itself, or its statutory body, rent for 30 years before taking over the property, while the loan would likely be repaid in five years.
Either way, the party believes it is not the best use of workers’ contributions to the Board.
