14 Guinea Grass residents attend Contract Farming and School Backyard Gardening Workshop on Thursday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Fourteen residents of Guinea Grass in the Orange Walk District are better prepared after attending a one-day workshop on Contract Farming and School Backyard Gardening Workshop held on Thursday in Guinea Grass.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, the 14 represent a diverse group of farmers, teachers, and the Parents-Teachers Association members from the community.

MAFSE said the workshop was held in order to “provide valuable knowledge and resources to farmers, teachers, and PTA members to enhance agricultural practices and promote school gardening.”

“The workshop provided valuable learning experiences, and fostered collaboration between farmers, educators, and the community to improve agricultural practices and promote sustainable gardening”.

The Agriculture Ministry said it expects the participants to have a better knowledge of agricultural practices and that they can take advantage of the potential for partnerships through contract farming.

Regarding school backyard gardening, the facilitators stressed the importance of sustainable and educational gardening practices within the school highlighting its educational and nutritional value.

MAFSE added that the training was facilitated by officers Bernaldo Itza, Francis Vega, and Densford Mangar, who shared their expertise in the field with the participants.
