Cause of death of Oswaldo Vasquez Jr ‘undetermined;’ Jose Luis Espat skeptical of crocodile theory

By Aaron Humes: Police have confirmed that after a post-mortem examination on the body of Oswaldo Vasquez, Jr., of San Jose Palmar, Orange Walk, the coroner was not able to determine how he died.

The cause of death for the 31-year-old was listed as undetermined due to a state of decomposition and pending toxicology. There was also a reference to “aquatic predator activity,” referring to the possibility of a crocodile attacking the body.

But activist Jose Luis Espat, who the family brought in to assist with the search, still clings to the possibility of foul play. Two days ago he wrote on social media, “Do your research crocodiles don’t eat their prey alive they kill it sink it, and store it till it is decayed to an advanced stage and then eat it. In water the temperature is cooler so decomposition time is prolonged. And still u could see the intact skin anatomical planes in certain parts of the body. No crocodile killed Mr Vasquez.”

Following Friday’s examination, he added that Vasquez was buried immediately after that and that “no news nor police revealed the results,” going on to compare the case to those of Derrick Uh, BDF soldier Damasio Coc who allegedly killed himself while in Central Prison and the lady soldier who is also believed to have killed herself amid investigation of abuse by fellow soldiers.
