By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Twenty-five beekeepers, actively involved with the Ya’axche Conservation Trust in the preservation of the Maya landscape through beekeeping, attended a two-day beekeeping workshop facilitated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) in Indian Creek Village, Toledo, on Thursday and Friday, October 12-13.
Conducted by Miguel Huertas and Jessie Madrid from the Ministry of Agriculture, the first session of the workshop focused on ‘Supplementary Feeding for Beekeepers’ at intermediate-level colony management.
The second session on Friday took the participants on apiary visits for them to learn about the practical aspects of beekeeping.
“The training covered various subjects, such as alternative bee feeding techniques, propolis production, and the identification and management of common colony pests,” MAFSE said in a social media post.
MAFSE through its extension officers offers their expertise for workshops in different areas of agriculture, including beekeeping which is one of the fields they have been extensively promoting.
