International News: Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, Honduras and Mexico to discuss migration at summit

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, Mexico will host a summit with focus on migration in the region.

According to the Associated Press, leaders from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti and Honduras will attend the summit.

These 4 countries are among the biggest sources of migrants currently showing up at the U.S. border.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Cuba and Prime Minister Ariel Henry of Haiti will attend the meeting in Palenque, along with Honduran President Xiomara Castro.

In addition, leaders from Ecuador and Guatemala will also attend while other countries will send officials to the meeting.

The summit will address migration and the root causes that lead people to leave their home countries.

Migration has spiked and thousands trek to reach the U.S.- Mexico border in hopes of better opportunities.
