By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Weather experts at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Tammy in the Atlantic.
A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Barbados, Dominica, Martinique and Guadeloupe and Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, and Nevis.
On the forecast track, the center of Tammy will move near or over the Leeward Islands Friday and Saturday.
Data from an NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that the maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts.
Tammy could strengthen to a hurricane by Saturday.
Tammy is expected to produce storm total rainfall of 3 to 6 inches, with maximum amounts of 10 inches, across portions of the northern Windward into the Leeward Islands.
The public is urged to stay alert and be prepared.
