Belizean Hector Ramirez on the run in the US for allegedly strangling his American wife after months of alleged physical, sexual abuse

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Hector Amirk Ramirez, a Belizean living in the United States, is currently on the run from authorities after allegedly assaulting his wife by strangling her in their Charlotte, North Carolina home. Fearful and desperate for his capture, Ramirez’s wife reached out to Breaking Belize News (BBN) to share her story.

The alleged assault took place on September 18. Ramirez was arrested and allegedly made a confession to police. He was released on bond but allegedly violated his bond and a restraining order against him by contacting the victim via a video call, in which he threatened to kill his wife, pointing a gun at her through the camera. He has been on the run since then.

His case is before the Mecklenburg District Court in North Carolina. He is believed to have fled to Knoxville, Tennessee since he violated the conditions of his bond. Ramirez is also allegedly living in the US illegally.

This, however, is not the first time Ramirez has been accused of domestic violence. An ex girlfriend living in Belize previously made a lengthy Facebook post detailing her own alleged instances of abuse with Ramirez, which was shared on a local media outlet.

His wife told BBN that she met Ramirez in Belize while she was on vacation in May 2022. He was a tour guide on the her trip to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and says it was love at first sight. Things got serious very quickly, and after her vacation, she returned to Belize a couple weeks later and got married to Ramirez. A photo was provided to BBN by the victim showing her neck excessively covered in vamps after one of her first encounters with Ramirez, who she says blamed her for getting too drunk, but she says she ignored the red flag.

Following the wedding, she returned to the US alone but moved to Belize to be with Ramirez for a little over a month, but as the sole financial provider, the burden was too much. Ramirez didn’t qualify for a K1 visa since they had already gotten married in Belize and was rejected for a tourism visa, so he decided to make his way to the US illegally, “through the back”.

Ramirez eventually made his way to the US in February 2023. The first signs of violence in the home started about three weeks after he arrived in the US, the victim claims. She says Ramirez was rough with her, grabbing her by the arm, hitting her, yelling at her and preventing her from leaving the home.

She says the abuse was constant as it escalated; verbally, physically and even sexually. She estimates she was physically abused at least 10 times before she finally decided to make a police report against Ramirez.

Police in the US are searching for Ramirez but haven’t been able to locate him. A report has also been made with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ramirez, however, remains on the run.
