By Horace Palacio: A gruesome discovery was made early yesterday morning in the quiet Farmers Site area of Hattieville when authorities responded to a tip about an aggravated burglary that had gone tragically awry.
At approximately 8:00am, officers arrived at the farm owned by Joel Andrews, popularly known in the community as ‘New York’. The entrance gate to the property was locked, but after gaining access, officers quickly surmised that a struggle had taken place. The interior of the house was in disarray, with belongings scattered about, suggesting a potential burglary.
About 600 yards from the ransacked home, officers made a grim discovery: the body of a man, later identified as Martin Sho, lying face up approximately 20 feet within a pond on the property. Sho’s body bore evidence of both chop wounds and gunshot injuries.
A mere 20 yards from where Mr. Sho’s remains were discovered, the body of a second male, identified as the property’s owner, Joel Andrew, was found. Andrew, of Creole descent, was dressed in a green shirt and was only wearing briefs. He too had sustained gunshot injuries.
Both bodies were found in a state of decomposition, pointing to the possibility that this violent altercation may have occurred a few days prior to the discovery.
The circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths of both men are shrouded in mystery. Preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of a burglary turned deadly, but authorities are keeping their options open as they piece together the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
Both bodies have been transported to the Forensics Lab where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death and to provide further clarity on the sequence of events.
The Hattieville police department has urged any witnesses or individuals with information about this incident to come forward.
