Security guard shot during attempted vehicle theft at Chial Farm

By Horace Palacio: A security guard was shot early Sunday morning during an altercation with two masked men at Chial Farm, located at mile 75 on the George Price Highway.

At approximately 3:22 am on October 29th, Benque Viejo Police received reports of shots fired at the farm. Upon arriving, they found a 32-year-old security guard employed by Force Company, suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of his abdomen.

The security guard, a resident of Santa Elena Town, Cayo District, was on his routine patrol around the property when he encountered two unidentified men by the pool area. Both men were clad in dark clothing, their faces obscured by masks. One of the intruders pointed a silver-colored firearm, believed to be a .38 revolver, at the security guard, demanding the keys to a Jeep vehicle parked on the premises.

After he informed them that he did not have the keys and was merely responsible for security, the duo inquired about the number of occupants inside the residence. Despite his assurance that nobody was inside the house, one of the suspects fired a shot at him as they began to leave the scene.

Realizing he had his issued firearm with him, the security guard fired approximately three shots in the direction of the attackers, who promptly fled the scene. He subsequently contacted the police.

The injured security guard was rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition. The farm is owned by Roberto Espat, an American resident.

Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
