Trick or treat? Police to monitor Halloween revelry

Posted: Tuesday, October 31, 2023. 7:49 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The mostly American pastime of celebrating All Hallows Eve, usually shortened to Halloween, has trickled down to other countries including Belize.

Tonight, many children will be out collecting candies and snacks, dressed in costume – but Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police, warns there may be real monsters hidden and waiting. So police will be on full alert: “The police do take these times very seriously and we are going to ensure that we enhance our presence in the business area, in particular, as well as other areas where we believe criminals may use the opportunities to commit crime. Yes, we know that the wearing of the Halloween masks and these sorts of things can be used as a disguise to go and commit crimes. So we are going to be on full alert tonight.”

The Commissioner says to be careful about where you go and when someone calls “trick or treat” at your door, make sure you know whom you are opening your door for.
