Punta Gorda residents concerned about alternate route due to replacement works on Joe Taylor bridge

Posted: Thursday, November 2, 2023. 2:05 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) recently inormed that works will commence for the Construction of Joe Taylor Bridge in the Toledo District.

The MIDH noted that it is an infrastructure development project that will bring significant benefits to the surrounding communities and improve public and road infrastructure.

MIDH informed that works will last 15 months and during this time, motorists will use the Carib Reserve Road as an alternate route.

However, residents met last night and shared their concerns on the alternate route.

According to them, the alternate route is almost 10 miles around and would cost them millions in fuel while the new bridge is being built.

The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) and other stakeholders and community members are requesting an urgent meeting with the Ministry to find a solution.
