Macal River’s swell puts San Ignacio’s low-level bridge at risk

Posted: Saturday, November 4, 2023. 10:55 am CST.

By Horace Palacio: A flood warning has been released by the Ministry of Natural Resources for the San Ignacio area due to a significant rise in the Macal River as of 10:30 AM today. The rise poses a serious threat to the low-level bridge, a common passage for San Ignacio and Santa Elena residents, which may become impassable shortly.

The community is urged to monitor the situation through the latest advisories from the Ministry and to refrain from using the bridge for the imminent future. Individuals in proximity to the river should be prepared to evacuate, secure their property, and make provisional relocation plans if necessary.

Updates and further guidance are available from the Ministry via email and official channels, or by phone at (501) 802-2711 or (501) 802-2630.
