By Aaron Humes: On Monday night, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) informed the general public that the entrance to the Coastal Road approaching from La Democracia on the George Price Highway is closed due to flooding issues.
In a formal advisory issued earlier on Monday evening, NEMO announced that a flood warning is in effect for the Mopan River, Roaring River, Belize River, Black Creek, Mexico Creek, and Mussel Creek. Additionally, a flash flood alert is in effect for the Moho River at Blue Creek and Jordan and Ten-cent Creek in Belmopan.
The extended weather forecast calls for continued outbreaks of showers, isolated thunderstorms along with periods of moderate to heavy rain to continue to affect the country especially over central and some coastal areas.
Residents are advised to exercise caution as the low-level bridge on the Macal River at San Ignacio and the Belize River at Iguana Creek are impassable.
NEMO continues to urge the public to remain vigilant as flood conditions may be possible. NEMO also urges all communities in Belize and, especially those in flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant. Residents are advised to continue to follow official information from NEMO. Stay tuned for weather bulletins from National Meteorological Service and periodic advisories from NEMO.
NEMO’s emergency hotline is 936. Stay alert, be prepared.
