By Aaron Humes: A Belize City man was the victim of a theft where he was jacked by a man who is the friend of another man who claims he (the victim) owed him money, and so to get his money he set up his friend to take it by dishonest means.
That sequence of events landed 25-year-old Charles August of Consuelo Street, Belize City, in court where he pleaded guilty to theft of $2,450 from Keinen Bermudez on October 6.
In court, August claimed he was set up by a friend who told him he was owed money by Bermudez, and to go get it from him at a shop where he, Bermudez, was.
According to Bermudez, however, he was cashing a cheque at the shop near Central American Boulevard and had placed a black plastic bag containing money on the countertop, when August came in and swiped it from him, running down Central American Boulevard.
After nearly a month, August was picked up by police over the weekend; they also recovered almost a thousand dollars of the stolen money.
August was fined $1,000 and cost of court which he must pay by the end of next January, or spend six months in prison.
