International News: CARICOM again calls for ceasefire in Gaza

Posted: Sunday, November 12, 2023. 7:23 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has updated its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, with the release of hostages and immediate, safe, and unimpeded access for humanitarian support.

A statement issued today states the “catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza… continues to worsen” and that the Community is horrified by the mounting death toll among civilians not only in Gaza but elsewhere in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

CARICOM calls on all states to respect international humanitarian law following the Geneva Convention and condemns any disregard for the law that has destroyed civilian infrastructure in Gaza and caused deprivation of basic necessities, including medical care.

The Community maintains that a two-state solution exists to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which can only be achieved peacefully and per United Nations Resolutions and international law.

Israel has so far refused calls for a ceasefire and insists that it intends the complete destruction of Hamas.
