By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Monday, Mexican authorities found Mexico’s first openly non-binary magistrate and prominent LGBTQ activist Jesús Ociel Baena Saucedo dead.
The well-known activist was found inside his home in Aguascalientes, CNN reports.
Baena’s romantic partner was also found dead in the home where they both resided.
At this time, Mexican officials say that the cause of death is unknown.
Mexican officials indicated that preliminary findings show that no traces of blood were found outside the crime scene, that there was no damage found in the accessways to the home, and that they are ruling out the “presence of a third person” involved in the deaths.
One of the deceased was found holding a “cutting instrument”.
Baena had been a member of the central Mexican state of Aguascalientes’ Electoral Tribunal for just over a year.
During media interviews, Baena had indicated that being the first non-binary magistrate in Latin America was an achievement and recognition for years of work in favor of LGBTQ rights.
