By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After the constant rains, the Institute of Archaeology said on Friday morning that the Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve in San Jose Succotz is still closed.

At the same time, the IA said Barton Creek has been opened to “all water-based tour activities”.

However, the Nohoch Che’en and Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Caves remained closed to “all water-based tour activities”.

The IA said all other archaeological reserves are open but advised tour guides to exercise caution.

The Institute of Archaeology said it continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
