By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) announced on Friday afternoon, just seven hours ahead of the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) game against French Guiana, that it was cutting midfielder Latrell Middleton “effective immediately”, but the FFB actually dropped Middleton on Thursday.

The FFB said Middleton was being dropped for not wanting to travel to Grenada for Tuesday’s match against St Vincent and the Grenadines, not wanting to undergo a proper medical assessment after claiming he was injured and needed two weeks rest, for refusing a subsequent medical assessment with a certified musculoskeletal doctor specialized in sports injuries like other three other players, and for refusing to attend a meeting with BMNT Manager Ian Jones and Head Coach David Pérez.

Sources within his club, Port Layola say the club is supportive of their players and were all excited for their three players who were called to the BMNT, namely Middleton, Gilroy ‘Bredda’ Thurton, and Charles Tillett. The feeling at Port Layola is that the FFB could have handled the situation in a better manner and not brought Middleton’s name into disrepute.
