Manhunt underway for escaped BDF soldier convicted in missing M4 assault rifle case

By Aaron Humes: Private Wayne Perry, member of the Belize Defence Force (BDF), was charged following the loss and recovery of an M4 commando rifle gone missing from Camp Belizario, Cayo District in August that was found in Belize City.

But the news tonight is that Perry was convicted in a trial held by the Force and sentenced to a year’s imprisonment at the Central Prison in Hattieville.
Reports say he was to be transported to prison on Thursday and was being held at Price Barracks in Ladyville after 6 in the evening. He asked to make a phone call and when he was given his bag and phone to do so, he escaped through the window of the cell, ran past the guard on duty and hopped over a fence separating the Barracks from the nearby Philip Goldson International Airport, in full view of fellow soldiers.

A manhunt has been launched and we will have an update about that later on.
