New Peace Corps volunteers to focus on Youth Empowerment by Sports

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology Francis Fonseca joined U.S. Ambassador Michelle Kwan and Dr. Nadine Rogers, Country Director for the Peace Corps, to swear-in the latest cohort Peace Corps volunteers in Belize.

This cohort recently concluded their training and will focus on the Youth Empowerment by Sports (YES) programme developed in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transport.

In his remarks, Minister Fonseca commented on the longstanding partnership between the Ministry and the Peace Corps.

He also encouraged the volunteers to enjoy their time in Belize by embracing Belizean cultural heritage and experiences.

Minister Fonseca was also joined at the event by Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam, Governor-General of Belize, Minister of Youth Sports and Transport Rodwell Ferguson, Eamon Courtney, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration and Ambassador Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
