Belize Men’s National Softball Team beats El Salvador 11-9 in extra innings in 2023 Central American Men’s Fastpitch Championship in Nicaragua

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Softball Team bounced back after losing the first two games in the 2023 Central American Men’s Fastpitch Championship and beat El Salvador 11-9 on Friday night at the Rufo Marín Stadium in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Pitcher Khajaun Madrill recorded the victory for Belize in eight innings over Carlos Pérez. Madrill entered the game in the seventh inning in relief of Roy Briceño who had relieved Milton Flores in the sixth.

Belize took and early lead leading 7-0 by the end of the first inning but Nicaragua rallied back and closed the gap to 9-6 in the fourth inning and inched closer in the top of the seventh to 9-8. However, Madrill entered the game and put it away in the extra inning for Belize to claim their first win 11-9.

Earlier, Belize lost 8-0 to Nicaragua in the opener. Jorge Zamora won over Flores.

In the second game, Belize fell to Honduras 8-1 with Madrill losing to Héctor Hernández.

Today, Belize is scheduled to play Costa Rica at about 12:30 pm at the Farem Field in Estelí. Starting times are not exact because they depend on the length of the previous games.

After the first day, Honduras led with a 3-0 record followed by Nicaragua at 1-1. El Salvador sat in third place with 1-1, followed by Belize in fourth at 1-2, and Costa Rica in fifth with a 0-2 record.

After Saturday’s games, the four highest ranked teams advance to the semifinals and final on Sunday at the Rufo Marín Stadium..

The #1 team ranked will play #4 and #2 will face #3. The winners advance to the final to play for gold and silver. The two losing teams played for bronze.

Game 3: El Salvador 16 – 12 Costa Rica

Game 4: Honduras 18 -0 Costa Rica

Game 5: Honduras 11 – 2 Nicaragua

Game 6: Belize 11 – 9 El Salvador
