A culturally united Belize: Education and Culture Ministry hosts memorable ‘Tribute to Andy Palacio and Paul Nabor’ concert

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On November 17, 2023, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, hosted the Tribute to Andy Palacio and Paul Nabor Concert on the beachside in Hopkins.

The concert, curated by Cuban born Carlos Perrote, featured captivating performances from the Garifuna Collective, the St. John’s Steelpan Orchestra, the Pallotti High School String Ensemble, the National Choir, Mohobob Flores, and CWills.

“As shared by CEO Dian Maheia, tribute concerts are not only necessary to celebrate and honour the legacy of our trailblazers such as Andy Palacio and Paul Nabor, but it is also essential in the preservation and promotion of the dynamic and vibrant Garifuna culture,” the Ministry said.

CEO Mejia also highlighted that while other cultures in the world are at war, Belizeans are united as we honour the legendary Andy Palacio and Paul Nabor, and celebrate the garifuna culture as a united people

The Ministry of Culture affirmed its commitment to the development and preservation of the Garifuna culture.

“We continue to work through our National Institute of Culture and History through realize this commitment,” the Ministry expressed.
