Leaders of Spanish Lookout and the community saddened by sudden death of 4-year-old Ayana Moody

Posted: Monday, November 20, 2023. 10:40 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The leadership of the Spanish Lookout says that the community is saddened by the sudden death of 4-year-old Ayana Moody. The 4-year-old was in foster care in Spanish Lookout when her death occurred.

Local authorities have informed that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding Ayana’s death.

Following the incident, representatives of the Spanish Lookout community issued a statement extending condolences on the passing of Ayana.

“All children are God’s own precious treasures and are all deserving of our love and protection. This is what our community believes as central to our Christian faith and we express as a community our sincerest condolences at the sudden yet unexplained death of four year old Ayana Bennet (Moody). Our hearts are collectively broken and we express our sadness at her passing and share in the grief of her biological parents and family,” the statement said.

The representatives noted that on September 7, 2023, community members opened their home to Ayana as their foster child.

“Opening their home also signaled the welcoming of our entire community of the young child. Our Spanish Lookout community is no stranger to fostering children as many of our families have been loving foster parents and families for many children over the past years. For us, it is a part of our Christian duty to care for and protect the most vulnerable of our Belize society. Fostering children is a selfless expression and sharing of love with and for others,” it added.

The Spanish Lookout community says that they pledge their full support for the investigation process for authorities to establish her cause of sudden death.

“We express our deepest condolences once again to the biological family and to all Belize. One death of a child is a tragic loss to our entire Spanish Lookout and wider Belizean community. Children are such a treasure to our families, communities and nation,” it further stated.
