Trial by jury kicks off for man who allegedly stabbed ex step-father 27 times

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The case against Michael Baptist, 27, began on Wednesday in a trial by jury, which has not been done since prior to the pandemic. Baptist is accused of stabbing his ex step-father Eugene “Fatback” Webster as many as 27 times in his home in 2016.

The case kicked off in the High Court of Justice Nigel Pilgrim and 9 jurors: 6 women and 3 men. Webster took the stand as the main witness and identified Baptist as he recounted the attack against him in his Los Lagos home on July 6, 2016.

Webster testified that on that day, Baptist came to his home to wash a vehicle but it had already been washed so he gave Baptist money to catch a bus but he later returned and asked to stay for the night. Webster allowed him to stay and in the early hours of the morning, woke up to Baptitst allegedly stabbing him multiple times to his neck, body, chest and arms.

The trial continued on November 24.
