By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Splash’s Anna López Camp captured first place in the Women’s Run for Jaguars 10-mile race in aid of The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center on Sunday in one hour, seven minutes, 50.1 seconds (1:07:50.1).
López was third overall behind Marco Cucul and Victor Caliz, winners of the Men’s Category.
The race, organized by Roxana Lemus and The Belize Zoo and sponsored by Travellers Liquors Ltd., started at the Belize Zoo, took to the George Price Highway and the Coastal Road and returned via the same route to the Belize Zoo.
Jane Champion of Placencia was second 1:22:42.
Evelyn Zuleta of Westrac Slick Runners finished in 3rd place in 1:23:36.
Dorsha Sabido was fourth 1:27:09.2 running for Quench UR Thirst.
Verenise Grajalez of All Ways Belize was fifth in 1:34:16.3.
Neydy López of Franks Eddy finished in sixth place in 1:36:50.2.
Kristelle Young, running for Heart & Sole was seventh in 1:37:20.5.
Shoko Funae of Belize City was eighth in 1:39:10.
Kathleen Azueta Cho of Hill Treaders finished ninth in 1:39:19.3 seconds.
Viviana Ordonez rounded off the top ten running for Heart & Sole in 1:39:56.4.
Zookeeper and avid runner Roxana Lemus organized the race to bring attention to the jaguars, as we approach International Jaguar Day on November 29. According to the race promotion, the jaguars face increasing threats to their survival and the conservation efforts ensuring their survival from Mexico to Argentina are of utmost importance.
