By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Mauro Cucul of the Westrac Slick Runners won the Men’s Run for Jaguars 10-mile race in aid of The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center on Sunday in 59 minutes, 40.4 seconds (0:59:40.4)
The race, organized by Roxana Lemus and The Belize Zoo and sponsored by Travellers Liquors Ltd., started at the Belize Zoo, took to the George Price Highway and the Coastal Road and returned via the same route to the Belize Zoo.
Victor Caliz of Trailblazer – Team Mira was second in one hour 4 minutes, 15.1 seconds (1:04:15.1).
Third place belonged to Edgar Alvarez of Juiciness, who ran the course in 1:08:26.8.
Edwin Garnett finished in fourth position, running for the Westrac Slick Runners, in 1:11:47.1.
Fifth place overall was for Fred Usher Jr of All Ways Belize in 1:13:5.8.
Sixth place was taken by Victor Figueroa of the Westrac Slick Runners in 1:13:21.5.
Seventh was grabbed by Dudley Smith of the Hill Threaders in 1:14:32.4.
Freddy Tut of the Foothills Runners finished eighth in 1:14:46.7.
Gary Lee of Sun Led Services was ninth in 1: 15:15.7 seconds.
Kelvin Martinez, running for Splash, was tenth in one hour 15 minutes, 35.4 seconds.
Zookeeper and avid runner Roxana Lemus organized the race to bring attention to the jaguars, as we approach International Jaguar Day on November 29. According to the race promotion, the jaguars face increasing threats to their survival and the conservation efforts ensuring their survival from Mexico to Argentina are of utmost importance.
