Cyclists Jyven Gonzalez, Leon Leslie continue recovery after being knocked down by motorcyclist on Sunday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Cyclists Jyven Gonzalez and Leon Leslie continue recovering from bruises suffered when they were knocked down by a motorcyclist during their Sunday training ride on the George Price Highway.

The Cycling Federation of Belize said on social media that both riders suffered severe bruises, but fortunately didn’t suffer any fractures. However, their bikes were severely damaged, Leslie had just acquired a new bike for the upcoming cycling season.

Both cyclists were hospitalized suffering from scrapes, bruises, and hip pain after being knocked near the Jaguar Paw entrance, but were later released.

“We would like to appeal to the Ministry of Transport to have their Highway Patrol assist with the speeding of drivers and motorcyclists’ who use the highway, especially those motorcyclists in these communities on the highway who don’t have any type of license and insurance.” The Cycling Federation of Belize said.

“These riders and their sponsor suffered a great loss as they won’t be compensated for their bikes, medical expenses, nor inconvenience from the injuries.”

The CFB also reminded riders to wear all necessary safety gears when training on the highways and to ride smartly.
