By Aaron Humes: While still on remand awaiting trial for the double murder of Jennifer Archila and Nitzia Catzim in 2020, Brian Jerry Castillo, 30, will have further jail time tacked on for an escape attempt earlier this month.

According to police, Castillo appeared on Friday in the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court on a charge of escape from lawful custody, to which he pleaded guilty.

Castillo was sentenced to five years imprisonment. However, after time on remand was deducted, it was reduced to one year and four months.

On November 16, Brian Castillo and William Carabantes (also Carvantes) were on their way back from court appearances in Belmopan to the Central Prison at Hattieville when they made a break for it near Cotton Tree.

Carabantes, 38, from the San Martin area of Belmopan, is still at large, Police confirmed on Friday. He was on remand for a charge of rape.

If you have seen him or know where he is, immediately contact 922 or the nearest Police Station.
