Run your lottery or raffle past the official Lotteries Committee

By Aaron Humes: Raffles and lotteries and similar schemes for distribution of prizes by lot or chance are officially controlled by the Lotteries Control Act, Chapter 151 of the Laws of Belize.

On Monday the Lotteries Committee issued a reminder that a license or letter of authorization with its imprimatur is needed to promote or conduct any lottery or raffle, obtained in writing to the secretary of the Committee. Each sanctioned raffle has a reference number in the records of the committee which needs to be displayed on tickets when advertised.

Any violation of the Lotteries Control Act and its regulations is an offence. Violators may be liable on summary conviction in a court of law.
