By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Football Federation of Belize (FFB) President Sergio Chuc on Wednesday commended the Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) for their accomplishment while hitting out at the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT).
In welcoming the BWNT from Aruba where they defeated Aruba 1-0 on Monday to finish the Concacaf League C Group A round robin with a perfect record of six consecutive wins without a draw or loss and gaining their promotion to League B, Chuc said the BWNT gave the FFB no trouble as the Belize Men’s National Team, which actually got relegated from League B to League C.
“We are here to celebrate your victory, to celebrate your accomplishment, the hard work that you have done,” Chuc said at the FFB Headquarters in Belmopan where he welcomed the BWNT.
“I want to say personally about the gratitude I feel towards you guys, because you have not brought the pressure that the A National Team, Male, has brought to me.
“Towards the end of this year we did not have the finances for the team to travel the way how we travelled before because this competition was not budgeted in this year’s budget. So, we had to find the additional funds and you guys took the hardest route and did not complain.”
Chuc said the BWNT was very cooperative with the FFB.
“We could never do that with the A Team, the Male Team because there was a talk about hardship allowances, and they would have talked about boycotting and not going to the game, and wanting more money,” Chuc said.
“And you guys gave no trouble. You just went out there, worked with us, did what you had to do, and now it makes football, it makes the Federation, and it makes the country so proud of you. And that is why you’ve been receiving this warm welcome all across the country. I saw the motorcade in Corozal this morning. And then I saw what the Mayor of Orange Walk prepared for you guys with the kids out there welcoming you and that was just wonderful and it was heartwarming. So, continue enjoying.”
The BWNT, who arrived from Aruba through the Belize/Mexico border on Wednesday, was welcomed by the FFB with a motorcade through Corozal, Orange Walk, and Belmopan. Since passing through Corozal and Orange Walk took longer than expected, the FFB delayed the Belmopan segment of it until 2:00 pm after the BWNT had lunch.
