By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, police in Las Vegas responded to reports of an active shooter at the University of Nevada.
According to the Associated Press, the shooter was a professor who had unsuccessfully sought a job at the school.
Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Anthony Polito, 67.
Authorities searched an apartment in Henderson, Nevada and retrieved several electronic devices, including Polito’s cellphone.
The shooter opened fire around 11:45 am on the fourth floor of the building that houses the University’s Lee Business School, then went to several other floors before he was killed in a shootout with two university police detectives outside the building.
Three people were killed and a fourth was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said.
Classes were canceled through Friday at the university.
