Belize hosts 2023 Pok Ta Pok World Cup Championship

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The 2023 Pok Ta Pok World Cup Championship is being hosted in Belize from December 8-10, 2023.

Belize’s Ek Balam is the 3-time World Champion and will represent Belize along with the Kinich Ahaw male and female teams.

Other competing countries include El Salvador, the United States, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico.

This is the 5th male world tournament and the first year featuring female teams.

The event is being organized locally by Kanan Miatstil and the Belize Maya Ancestral Sport Pok Ta Pok Association.

The event commenced with an opening ceremony on Friday at the Multipurpose Complex in Orange Walk Town.

Following the ceremony, the excitement unfolded as teams engaged in adrenaline-filled matches simultaneously hosted at the Multipurpose Complex and People’s Stadium.
