Floralia makes temporary adjustments to Punta Gorda and Independence Bus Schedules

Posted: Saturday, December 9, 2023. 11:19 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transport informed that the Supreme Court denied a request to vary the deadline of December 10, 2023, for termination of specific Floralia Bus Road Service Permits.

These are three bus runs: 1.) one originating at 5:30 a.m. from Punta Gorda en route to Belize City daily, 2.) a bus run originating at 6:30 a.m. in Punta Gorda en route to Belize City from Monday to Saturday and 3.) a bus run that departs Dangriga at 6:00 a.m. en route to Belize City from Monday to Saturday.

Floralia has since issued a statement announced that it is making temporary adjustments to the Punta Gorda and Independence Bus Schedules.

“The change in schedules has been mandated through a court hearing where the Transport Board was found not to follow all procedures when processing our application for these runs.  To our knowledge, the violation was a simple technical error.  Following that ruling, GOB applied for an extension on the court’s ruling and that case was brought to court,” Floralia explained.

“Though we fulfilled our responsibility in ensuring that our applications were submitted per the lawful requirements, the consequences of the Transport Board’s error, has now fallen on our shoulders. Today, the court ruled against the extension GOB had sought, which would have allowed us to continue serving our customers,” the company added.

Floralia further informed that bus runs out of Punta Gorda and Independence have been terminated and the last day on the current permit will expire on December 10th.

“Several weeks ago, we re-applied for these exact runs and have been awaiting approval of our application from the Transport Board.

We are pained to announce that as of December 11th, the deserving communities served by these runs will be left without access to our service, meaning that every week, 3,000 Floralia family members will not be served.  We are currently working to get the details of how the court ruling will affect our schedules and will be updating you with that information as soon as it is available,” the company further added.

Floralia extended gratitude to all customers for their support.
