By Aaron Humes: Nimrod Sherman Tillett Catzim, infamous for walking from at least 2 murders only to be shot himself, is spending the Christmas season behind bars.
In the New Year, he will learn whether he is to be extradited to Quintana Roo, Mexico, to be tried for the 2019 murder of a woman.
On Friday, he was further remanded by Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola, following the granting of a warrant for his apprehension regarding extradition proceedings set to commence on Monday, January 29, 2024.
Tillett, who is still in recovery after being shot earlier this year, told the court he is much better and although he is using crutches today to walk, he still need to use a wheelchair from time to time. He also mentioned needing emergency treatment to fix his wrongly placed catheter and complained of the food being given in prison, saying he cannot eat beans and they only cook rice and beans at the Kolbe Foundation.
Tillett had previously been remanded for sixty days and Attorney General’s Ministry counsel Stacey Martinez made an application for the further apprehension of Tillett before the Chief Magistrate which was granted by the court.
Tillett asked for bail which was denied and for advice from legal counsel. The Chief Magistrate directed him to the Legal Aid and Services Center.
He was also handed the 150-page bundle of evidence the Crown is relying on at the extradition hearing.
Allegations are that he gruesomely murdered a woman and then discarded her body in a trash can.
The entire murder was reportedly captured on surveillance footage and the Crown will hope to enter it as part of its push to send Tillett over the border.
