By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: During Thursday’s Sitting of the House of Representatives, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology Francis Fonseca introduced the Supplementary Appropriations Bill for education.
This will allow the Ministry to pay off already approved financial assistance and accommodate future requests.
In addition, the Government of Belize will assume responsibility for the FULL salaries and benefits of teaching and non-teaching staff at government and grant-aided secondary and tertiary schools.
Amendments to the Education Act was also tabled. This will eventually see the compulsory school age be raised to 16 were tabled.
“Setting the compulsory school age to 16 helps ensure broader educational attainment, offering students more time to develop skills and knowledge before entering the workforce or making further educational choices,” the Ministry noted.
“This is how we’re Making Education Work for Belize,” the Ministry said.
