By Aaron Humes: On Saturday the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transport informed that the runs previously held by Floralia Limited from 5:30 a.m. daily from Punta Gorda to Belize City; 6:30 a.m. from Monday to Saturday from Punta Gorda to Belize City; and 6:00 a.m. Monday to Saturday from Dangriga to Belize City are on hold as of Monday, December 11, per court order.
The court ruled last month that the runs were improperly considered and approved by the Transport Board, disadvantaging James Bus Line and Griga Line Limited.
Following Government Gazette notices on November 18 and 25 and December 2, the Transport Board will formally look at applications for road service permits for the 5:30 and 6:30 Punta Gorda runs at its meeting on December 14, the last for the year.
The Dangriga to City 6:00 a.m. run will be considered at the January meeting of the Board after being Gazetted three times per the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 230.
Interested parties are invited to make written submissions to the Transport Board for consideration at their meeting as published in the Gazette. Decisions of the Transport Board regarding these three bus runs will be communicated to the applicants and commuters on the day that the decisions are made. Except for these three bus runs, the existing bus schedule will continue to be operational.
Floralia’s other runs to and from Placencia and another run from Dangriga are not presently affected.
