By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gwen Lizarraga High School captured the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball Boys Championship on Saturday at the Swift Hall in Belize City.
Gwen Liz overcame St John’s College (SJC) 74-66 in the Final earning the right to represent the CSSSA in the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball Championship this coming weekend.
Maud Williams High School won third place as they defeated Wesley College 72-60.
Gwen Liz’s Harlem Noralez was named the Most Valuable Player of the one-day Central Region tournament.
Maud Williams’ Jason Orosco was the Scoring Champion with an average of 25 points per game.
The semifinals were played earlier in the week. On Tuesday, December 5, Gwen Liz triumphed over Wesley 71-57 and on Wednesday, December 6, SJC took out Maud Williams 84-68.
Gwen Liz is now bound for the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball Championship that will be hosted by Sacred Heart College at their auditorium in San Ignacio on Friday and Saturday, December 15 and 16.
