Price gouging violations continue

Posted: Monday, December 11, 2023. 9:01 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Earlier this year, the Government of Belize introduced price control measures due to widespread price gouging around the country.

Last month, the Supplies Control Unit began its rounds and has since ticketed 59 businesses for price control violations.

San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Councilor Matthew Preston shared via social media his own experience.

Preston noted that on November 27, he purchased a bag of dog food in Orange Walk for $68. The bag of dog food had the price marked on it.

Then, on December 10, he purchased the same exact bag of dog food in San Ignacio for $119.95. Notably, the dog food had no marked price on it.

“Please share with authorities so they can look into this,” Preston urged.

Consumers from across the country commented on the post urging the authorities to continue to look into the supermarkets across the country.
