By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Wesley College won the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball Girls Championship on Saturday at the Swift Hall in Belize City. Wesley has now won the Central title for a second year in a row.
Wesley defeated EP Yorke High School 22-9 in the Finals to gain the ticket to represent the CSSSA in the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball Championship this coming weekend.
Gwen Liz High School earned third place as they defeated Nazarene High School 10-6 in the consolation game.
Wesley’s Kailee Godfrey was voted the Most Valuable Player of the one-day tournament.
EP Yorke’s Jeniyah Welch was the Scoring Champion with an average of 12.6 points per game.
The semifinals were played earlier in the week. On Tuesday, December 5, Wesley beat Gwen Liz 18-16 and on Wednesday, December 6, EP Yorke defeated Nazarene 17-13.
Wesley now prepares for the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball Championship that will be hosted by Sacred Heart College at their auditorium in San Ignacio on Friday and Saturday, December 15 and 16.
