By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Basketball Federation (BBF) has officially recognized the recently elected Belize District Basketball Association (BDBA) Executive Committee.
“As an affiliated member of the BBF, the BDBA is authorized to organize, host, and manage basketball activities, tournaments and events in the Belize District in compliance with the general statutes and internal regulations of the BBF,” the BBF said in a letter to BDBA President Roscoe Rhys.
“The BDBA is managed by an Executive Committee that has been duly elected on November 26, 2023 and will serve for a period of four years in accordance with the BBF governing cycle.”
The letter, signed by BBF President Jacob Leslie and Secretary General Raul Rosado, said the BDBA Executive Committee comprises President Roscoe Rhys, Vice President Kendis Ferguson, Secretary Karina Hernandez, and Treasurer Rumile Arana.
The other Executive members are Ernest Myles (Tench), Ahmad El-Amin, and Erîc Alexander Garbūtt.
Rhys, who is a coach at the Belize Elite Basketball Level, is very active in the basketball community. He has held a USA Basketball Gold Coach License for the last seven years consecutively since 2017.
“ We are planning a general meeting to engage with all clubs coaches and basketball stakeholders in the Belize District in January 2024,” Rhys told Breaking Belize News.
In a open letter to the Belize District basketball community, the BDBA Executive said its mission is “to promote the growth, development, and enjoyment of basketball by fostering a community that values sportsmanship, skill enhancement, and inclusivity”
“We aim to provide a platform for players, coaches, and fans to engage in the spirit of competition while prioritizing integrity, teamwork, and the positive impact of the sport on individuals and society,” the BDBA Executive Committee said.
“We are asking for the support of all the clubs, coaches, tournament organizations, referees and all basketball enthusiasts in the Belize District to reach out to the BDBA secretary via email at [email protected] with information about your club or event for 2024.”
“We are in the planning phase and will be having an annual general meeting.”
