By Rubén Morales Iglesias: King’s College Aysha Acosta was named Most Valuable Player of the National Secondary Schools Girls Basketball Championship that King’s College won on Saturday at Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio.
Acosta is a student at San Pedro High School but joined King’s College for the NSSSA Girls Basketball Championship as the NSSSA rules allow the regional champions to strengthen their team with three players from other schools within their region.
Central Champions Wesley College also took advantage of the rule strengthening up with Essence Garcia of Nazarene High. Wesley finished in third place.
Another notable reinforcement was Boys Champions Gwen Liz who fortified their lineup with St John’s College Daniel Musa.
Northern Region Champions King’s College beat Georgetown Technical 25-9 in the Final capturing a second consecutive National Secondary Schools Girls Basketball Championship.
Last year King’s College, led by 2022 MVP Aldaeshuny Dixon, won the Final 20-18 over Western Champions Sacred Heart College at the Punta Gorda Multisports Complex in the tournament hosted by Toledo Community College.
