By Aaron Humes: A serious charge of sexual assault has been leveled against Josue Sic, 45, of Holy Emmanuel Street Extension. He is accused of inappropriately touching a five-year-old girl sleeping in her bed, only to be caught by her father.
Sic appeared before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola accused of intentionally touching a female minor in a sexual manner.
Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, December 17, the father of the child told police, he and Sic were socializing and he got hungry and went to buy food nearby, asking Sic to look after his three girls sleeping inside in case they woke up asking for him.
The father said he came back home after finding the shop was closed and did not see Sic in the yard where he had left him, causing him to think he had left. But he found him inside lying on the floor next to the bed where the girls were sleeping.
He further noticed that the five-year-old’s underwear had been removed as well as the bed sheet and that her leg had a sticky substance. He immediately called 911 and police responded and detained Sic, who claimed he was simply trying to change the girl’s underwear.
The Chief Magistrate set bail for Sic at $3,000 subject to his staying 100 feet away from the virtual complainant and reporting to the Mahogany Street Police Station every Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m., to 6:00 p.m. as well as to avoid being arrested or charged with any other offence whilst out on bail; but as of Tuesday evening he has yet to meet it.
Sic returns to court on February 19, 2024.
