Cassius Brenton Myers remanded to prison after attempt on the life of Maleek Pitts

Posted: Wednesday, December 20, 2023. 12:31 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A stabbing reportedly fueled by jealousy and domestic violence left one man hospitalized and another on remand at the Central Prison.

The latter is Cassius Myers, 22, of Mile 2 ½, George Price Highway (CET Site), who is accused of attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm on Maleek Pitts, 26.

On December 17, according to police, they were told that two couples were socializing at a house in the area when there was an altercation between one of the couples. Pitts allegedly intervened and Myers began to fight with him.

The fight spilled into the kitchen where Myers allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed Pitts several times. He is now in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Family members of Pitts reached out to Breaking Belize News to further clarify what happened. Originally, police reports ascribed the motive for the incident to be jealousy of Myers toward his partner and Pitts, but we are told that in fact, another individual had called Myers’ girlfriend that day in his presence to which he took exception, and that as he was acting in a disorderly fashion and using foul language in front of a child, Pitts told him to stop and that was when the fight ensued.

No plea was taken in court and bail was denied. Myers was remanded until February 9, 2024.
