Belize Airports Authority disavows connection with Sugar City International Airport Development

Posted: Saturday, December 23, 2023. 1:37 pm CST.

The Belize Airports Authority (BAA) has issued a clarifying statement regarding the Sugar City International Airport project, unequivocally distancing itself from the development.

By Horace Palacio: In a press release dated December 21, 2023, the BAA informed the public and concerned parties that it has not been involved in the planning, execution, or authorization of any aspect of the proposed Sugar City International Airport. The announcement comes amid speculation and the circulation of promotional materials suggesting an affiliation.

The Authority has taken a firm stance, stressing that it has not granted permission for its logo to be used in association with the airport development. It cautions that any such usage without explicit consent is unauthorized and does not carry the BAA’s endorsement, potentially leading to public confusion.

The BAA’s disclaimer follows the appearance of promotional visuals for the Sugar City International Airport, displaying the BAA’s insignia alongside the project’s branding. This graphic, intended to drum up support and investment for the new development, has been deemed misleading by the Authority.

In its communication, the BAA urges all stakeholders, organizations, and individuals to exercise due diligence in verifying the authenticity of any claims or representations made in connection with the Sugar City International Airport project as it relates to the BAA.

To provide accurate information to the public and maintain transparency, the BAA directs inquiries to its official communication channels for reliable data on its involvement in national projects.

For more information or to report concerns, stakeholders are encouraged to reach out to the Belize Airports Authority through the contact details provided in the press release.
