By Horace Palacio: Residents in several neighborhoods of San Ignacio Town are ringing in the New Year without power due to an unplanned outage that began at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024. Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) dispatched a team immediately to investigate the cause and restore power as soon as possible.
The outage is currently affecting areas surrounding the BEL Kontiki Substation and stretches along key routes, including:
BEL assures residents that they are working diligently to resolve the issue and restore power. They will be providing regular updates, both through their Facebook group “BEL Power Updates” and on their official channels, as information becomes available.
While frustrated residents adjust to the unexpected blackout, BEL thanks them for their patience and understanding during this time. It’s important to note that with the New Year holiday, some delays in communication or repair timelines may occur.
