By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Area Representative of Orange Walk East, Kevin Bernard has extended gratitude to Prime Minister John Briceno and the dedicated negotiating teams of the Government of Belize, the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association (BSCFA), and Belize Sugar Industries/American Sugar Refining (BSI/ASR) for their commitment and concerted efforts in reaching an amicable resolution to the recent challenges faced within our sugar industry.

“The leadership demonstrated by our Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Jose Mai, and the other Ministers and Area Representative of the north throughout this process has been nothing short of exemplary. His unwavering commitment and determination have been the driving forces behind ensuring that one of our nation’s most vital industries not only remains stable but also continues to thrive for the benefit of all stakeholders involved, especially our hardworking sugar cane farmers,” Bernard expressed.

Bernard noted that the collaboration between the government, BSCFA, and BSI/ASR serves as a testament to what can be achieved when common goals align and mutual understanding is sought after for the greater good of our community and our country.

“This solution not only secures the immediate future of our sugar industry but also lays down a solid foundation for sustained growth and prosperity,” he added.

Bernard says that he is confident that these negotiations will lead us towards a brighter and more resilient future for our sugar industry.
