Belize Cancer Society-San Ignacio branch launches Sticker campaign to raise awareness on cancer

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Cancer Society has launched its sticker campaign to raise awareness on cancer.

The campaign is an initiative geared toward better education and advocacy from the San Ignacio branch.

“We at the Belize Cancer Society – San Ignacio Branch are so tired of having our patients lose their battles with cancer despite them putting up a “good fight”.

We are determined to prevent cancer in our community by being proactive and educating our people on what steps they can take to prevent cancer instead of getting it and having to fight at all,” the Belize Cancer Society noted.

The Belize Cancer Society is encouraging the women in our community (and by extension the country) to get screened for cervical cancer by doing their pap smears annually.

“We also encourage them to get mammograms or breast ultrasounds done regularly to notice any changes in their breasts before it is too late.

There is a lot of ignorance and/or misinformation associated with pap smears, HPV testing, breast exams and other gynecological procedures. We want women to feel comfortable to get these routine procedures as it can totally help to detect cancer early or even prevent it,” the statement added.

You can help spread awareness by allowing them to place stickers at your establishment.
